The role of HPLC
High-performance liquid chromatography separates the components of a sample so that the relative proportion of the target compound can be estimated. In research supply, it is one of the most common methods used to express a purity figure.
A purity value derived from HPLC typically reflects the area of the main peak relative to total detected peaks under the conditions of the method.
What a purity percentage does not tell you
A single purity figure does not by itself describe identity, endotoxin levels, moisture content or residual solvents. These are separate analyses that may or may not be included in a given batch record.
Method conditions matter. Different columns, detectors and gradients can produce different results, which is why the method should be recorded alongside the figure.
